Workshop

Proposal Props
Why don’t I hear from agents or publishers after I submit my proposal? Is there something I’m missing? Why do some writers seem to sail by and I’m still waiting for my ship to come in.. This workshop will show you the five key areas of your proposal that either perk up or fall flat to an editor or agent reviewing. What are the areas? Come to this workshop and we’ll show you which ones and how you can rewrite and rework these sections for success!

1:1 Appointments

In order to make the most of your 1:1 appointment, we recommend that you carefully review the faculty members' areas of expertise, needs, and requests to identify those best suited for your goals as a writer.
Acquiring: Non-fiction
Categories: Christian Life, Spiritual Growth, Current Events, Business/Leadership, Church Leadership, Prophecy, Marriage, Parenting, Social Issues, Women's Issues, Men's Issues, Devotionals, DIY/Craft books, Cookbooks, and Gift books.
Voices: ministry leaders, business leaders, organizations, pastors, creatives, active in social media platforms and blogs, podcasts, and/or YouTube. Those who are already saying something related to their book in their own circles.
Not interested in: Not acquiring much fiction or Bible studies. Not acquiring memoirs or personal narratives. Also not acquiring poetry or short stories.
Pre-qualifications: Edited book proposal and sample chapters that reflect the uniqueness of their idea. Platform is important because it shows the author knows how to build an audience for his/her book. I call it “audience engagement” and it includes not just articles, posts, social media, subscribers, and the like but levels of engagement, sharing, and commenting. A person can have a high number of visitors or traffic, but are readers sharing and/or engaging with the author’s posts? That is key as well as how the writer sets themselves up to network with others in their field and other writers and the output from that. I don’t have requirement levels, but an author these day with a low platform or  pretty much “brand new” is going to have a harder time having an agent express interest in them until they’ve done the hard work to build an audience. It’s critical these days to attract publishers to invest their resources when they know you have as well.
